According to the current provisions of the institutional framework for higher education (Law 4009/2011 and Law 4076/2012) the Department is the basic educational and academic unit of each Institution, promotes science, technology or the arts in the respective scientific field, manages teaching within the Curriculum and ensures the continuous improvement of learning withiin it.
The Department consists of all the Professors, Lecturers, members of the Special Teaching Staff, members of the Laboratory Teaching Staff and members of the Special Technical Laboratory Staff who serve in it (articles 1 & 2 of law 4076/2012).
The Administrative Bodies of the Department of Business Administration, as well as all the Departments of Higher Education Institutions of the country - in accordance with the relevant provisions of the institutional framework for higher education (Law 4009/2011 and Law 4076/2012) - are: a) the Chairman, b) the Assembly of the Department, c) the Director of each Sector and d) the General Assembly of each Sector. Regarding the legal status of the responsibilities of these bodies, the provisions that were in force before the entry into force of Law 4009/2011 apply.
The President of the Department as well as the Vice President are elected by the Professors and the serving Lecturers of the Department by direct, private and universal suffrage for a two-year term (according to article 4 & 1 of Law 4076/2012) and has the following responsibilities: a) convenes the Assembly, prepares the agenda, appoints as a rapporteur a member of the Assembly, chairs its work and proposes issues for which no other member of the Assembly has been appointed rapporteur, b) ensures the implementation of the Curriculum , of educational activities and the Rules of Procedure, c) establishes Committees for the study or processing of specific issues within the competence of the Department, d) forwards to the Committee the views of the Assembly and e) prepares an annual report of activities of the Department and forwards it to the Board.
The President of the Department, in case of his absence or incapacity, is replaced by the Vice President.
The Assembly of the Department, consists of the Professors and the serving Lecturers of the Department, according to what was provided by the provisions in force at the entry into force of Law 4009/2011, a representative, per category, of the members of the Special Teaching Staff, the members of the Laboratory Teaching Staff and the members of the Special Technical Laboratory Staff, as well as two representatives of the students of the Department (one undergraduate and one postgraduate student). The representatives of the members of the Special Teaching Staff, the Laboratory Teaching Staff and the Special Technical Laboratory Staff are elected by direct, universal and private ballot among their respective members. Article 49 of Law 4009/2011 is applied proportionally for the representation of students.
The Assembly of the Department has the following responsibilities and all others provided by the provisions of the aforementioned laws, the Organization and the Internal Regulations: a) the election of the President of the Department, b) the implementation of the Curriculum and the continuous improvement of learning in it , c) the appointment of the Teachers of the Curriculum, d) the selection and approval of the textbooks for each course of the Curriculum, e) the formulation of an opinion to the Board for ways of improving the Curriculum, f) the formation of groups for the internal evaluation of the Curriculum, g) the suggestion to the Dean for the announcement of Teacher positions, h) the suggestion to the Dean of the School for the establishment of Second and third cycle Curricula, i) the awarding of degrees of the Curricula organized by the School, j) keeping records of scientific publications of the Professors and k) ensuring equal access and participation in the Curricula of all students, without discrimination and regardless of gender, disability or other characteristics.
